FORMER UKRAINIAN DEFENSE MINISTER MYKHAILO FEDOROV ASSUMES DEFENSE INNOVATION ADVISOR ROLE IN ITALY

Known for leading the technological and strategic modernization of Ukrainian forces, Fedorov begins collaborating with the Italian Ministry of Defense on military technology and air defense projects.

Italian Defense Minister Guido Crosetto officially appointed Mykhailo Fedorov, former Defense Minister of Ukraine, as his advisor for defense innovation on August 28, 2026.

The appointment follows Fedorov's departure from the Ukrainian government in July 2026 amid a ministerial reshuffle led by President Volodymyr Zelensky. Internationally known for driving digital transformation and leading cutting-edge strategies in asymmetric warfare and autonomous combat systems, Fedorov will provide external and pro bono consultancy to the Italian government.

According to Minister Guido Crosetto, the strategic partnership aims to absorb the extensive practical experience accumulated by Ukraine in recent conflicts. The core axes of collaboration include:

Modern Warfare Technologies: Consultancy on the tactical use and development of drones and unmanned systems.

Air Defense and Rapid Response: Optimization of industrial development processes and technological response facing hybrid conflict scenarios.

Defense Tech Ecosystem: Strengthening international cooperation to foster innovation in the European defense industry.

Despite his new high-profile role in Rome, the former minister's team emphasized that he maintains a strong presence in Ukrainian territory, where he continues to coordinate technological innovation projects and strategic fundraising for his country's defense sector.
