US Intelligence Reports Highlight 'Growing Espionage Threat' from Israel
Recent reports from the United States intelligence community have raised alarms in Washington due to a significant increase in espionage activities conducted by Israel on American soil. According to information obtained by The New York Times, the intensity of Israeli operations to monitor the US position in diplomatic negotiations with Iran has crossed historical boundaries of mutual tolerance between the two allies.
The surveillance reportedly targeted high-ranking officials in the Donald Trump administration, including the White House's chief negotiator, Steve Witkoff, Pentagon policy chief Elbridge A. Colby, and his deputy, Michael P. DiMino IV. Given the severity of the incidents, the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) has raised Israel's counterintelligence threat level from "high" to "critical."
The spike in surveillance was detected after US defense personnel on duty in the region discovered spyware secretly installed on their mobile devices, which was capable of intercepting confidential communications. Senior sources described Israel's intelligence-gathering efforts during the current US administration as "unhinged."
Diplomatic Tensions and Military Integration
Although the US and Israel maintain unprecedented tactical and military cooperation in the Middle East, Israel's pursuit of insights into Trump's negotiating strategy with Tehran threatens to create friction in the alliance. Analysts point out that the Pentagon is considering restricting the sharing of classified data with Israeli officers, which could slow down the ongoing military integration.
The core divergence lies in strategic approaches: while the US administration banks on diplomatic channels for a potential nuclear framework deal with Iran, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu advocates for a stance of total weakening of the Iranian regime and its regional allies.
To date, the US Department of Defense has declined to issue official statements, while White House representatives and the Israeli government have vehemently denied the mutual espionage allegations.
