Ukraine Retaliates Against Massive Strikes with Long-Range Offensive and Secures Diplomatic Breakthrough with the EU
Ukraine faces a decisive week marked by a resurgence in aerial combat and historic political achievements on the European stage. After enduring one of the largest waves of Russian bombardments against its civilian and energy infrastructure, Kyiv responded with deep long-range incursions into Russian territory and hosted a high-level NATO summit, just as it cleared the path for its accession to the European Union.
Military Response and the 1,000-km Target
Ukrainian territory suffered severe structural damage following a massive Russian assault involving hundreds of drones and hypersonic missiles, resulting in more than two dozen fatalities across major urban centers including Kyiv, Dnipro, and Kharkiv.
In response, Ukrainian forces demonstrated deep-strike capabilities by coordinating a drone attack that traveled over a thousand kilometers into the St. Petersburg region. The operation targeted the logistical heart of the Russian war machine, striking a strategic oil terminal and the historic Kronstadt naval base, alongside military industrial complexes in Tambov.
Inter-Allied Summit on Ukrainian Soil
In a clear demonstration of alignment and defiance against Kremlin pressure, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte led a delegation of ambassadors from all alliance member states to Kyiv for a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council.
During the in-person summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky reinforced the immediate need for logistical support. The Ukrainian appeal focuses on the urgent supply of interceptor missiles and air defense batteries, as current stockpiles operate under intense strain due to the unprecedented volume of recent combined strikes.
Diplomatic Victory: Advancing Toward the European Union
On the political front, Kyiv secured a historic institutional milestone. Following intense bilateral negotiations regarding ethnic minority rights, Hungary formally withdrew its long-standing veto on Ukraine's integration process.
With this decision, EU member states gave the green light for the official launch of accession negotiations for both Ukraine and Moldova. The resolution was welcomed in Brussels as a powerful signal of European geopolitical cohesion amid the prolonged regional conflict.
