Trump Advocates Splitting Iran Negotiations and Reveals Unprecedented Dialogue with Hezbollah
In recent statements to the press, U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed that American diplomacy is actively working to isolate peace negotiations with Iran from parallel conflicts in the region, specifically the hostilities between Israel and Lebanon.
When questioned about the viability of reaching a deal with Tehran and the subsequent reopening of the Strait of Hormuz without a prior Israeli cessation of hostilities in Lebanese territory, Trump was categorical in defending the independence of these diplomatic tracks.
"We're trying to separate it. I mean, you know, it's a very different kind of a thing," the President explained. "I'd like to separate it. I'd like to have it a separate thing because it is... It is separate."
Unprecedented Contact and Signaled Truce
The major revelation of the statement was the establishment of a direct and unprecedented channel of communication with the Lebanese Shia group Hezbollah. According to Trump, this interlocution resulted in an initial signal of a halt in attacks from both sides.
Historic Dialogue: "We actually spoke with Hezbollah for the first time ever. We didn't know they spoke," Trump declared.
Non-Aggression Agreement: The U.S. President detailed that, on the day prior to the interview, a mutual positive sign was reached: "They agreed yesterday they're not going to shoot, and Israel is not going to shoot. We're just going to see."
The strategy of fragmenting the complex crises of the Middle East into separate negotiation fronts marks the White House's current stance in an attempt to unblock maritime trade routes and mitigate the escalation of regional violence.
