Ukraine-NATO Council Meets in Kyiv in Demonstration of Unity Against Russian Intimidation

President Zelensky highlights the urgency of an autonomous European anti-ballistic architecture, confirms attendance at the Ankara Summit, and warns that the war targets the entire democratic world.

In a strategic and unified response to consecutive Russian attempts to intimidate diplomatic missions and push Western partners out of Ukrainian territory, the capital Kyiv hosted a high-level meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. The gathering was attended by the Secretary General of the Atlantic Alliance, Mark Rutte, and ambassadors from all member states of the organization.

In an official address focused on the day's strategic assessment, President Volodymyr Zelensky described the Kyiv summit as "highly symbolic" and stated that the core message delivered by all allied nations is unequivocal: Ukraine must receive reinforced and accelerated support, with particular urgency regarding the provision and development of anti-ballistic capabilities.

"Our partners have decided on new contributions to the PURL initiative, which will take effect as early as June. This will bring crucial assistance. At the same time, we are doing everything possible to accelerate Europe's work on its own anti-ballistic capabilities — it is essential that the continent possesses its own systems and its own missiles for protection," declared the Head of State.

Zelensky emphasized that Europe has all the necessary technical and industrial capacity to build a robust anti-ballistic defense network, with the only remaining requirement being to ensure speed in the execution of political decisions.

The President expressed his deep gratitude to the nations leading this joint effort — namely France, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy —, asserting that the continental security architecture will emerge truly strengthened: "It is not a question of 'if', but 'when'. And it will happen, but time is of great importance, and we must be more agile."

Global Diplomatic Articulation and the Ankara Summit

During the working meeting with Mark Rutte, the invitation for Ukraine's participation in the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara was formalized. The Ukrainian government guaranteed that the country will be represented at the highest level and is focused on turning the meeting into practical results for defense on the ground, with ballistic missile interception systems standing as one of the primary goals of the encounter.

In parallel, the Presidency of Ukraine maintained intense diplomatic contacts with European leaders, including the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, Keir Starmer, and the Prime Minister of Norway, Jonas Gahr Støre. The bilateral talks aimed at the supply of defensive weaponry and the alignment of a common European diplomacy through consolidated formats such as the E3 (United Kingdom, France, and Germany) and the Nordic countries bloc.

The Ukrainian President further urged transatlantic partners to redirect global strategic focus toward European stability. "The war that Russia started against Europe is, in fact, a war waged against the entire democratic world. Every free nation must make its contribution to halt Russian aggression and the constant Russian attempts to destabilize everyone around," he warned.

Long-Range Sanctions and Response on the Ground

On the military front, the President extended a special thank you to the defense and security forces — with particular distinction to the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), the Unmanned Systems Forces (SBS), the Special Operations Forces (SSO), the Military Intelligence (GUR), and the Foreign Intelligence Service (SZR) — for their precision in applying what he termed "Ukrainian long-range sanctions."
The Ukrainian leader emphasized that these surgical operations are bringing the actual impact of the conflict directly back to the home ports of Russian aggression, the very place where he reiterated the war must be concluded with the full restoration of peace.
