Ukraine-NATO Council Meets in Kyiv in Defiant Display of Unity Against Russian Intimidation
President Volodymyr Zelensky highlights the strengthening of European anti-ballistic defense and confirms Ukraine's participation in the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara.
In a powerful response to Russian attempts to intimidate diplomatic missions and alienate Western allies, the Ukrainian capital today hosted a high-level meeting of the Ukraine-NATO Council. The gathering was attended by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and ambassadors from all Allied member states.
The President of Ukraine described the meeting in Kyiv as "highly symbolic" and stressed that the central message of the encounter is unequivocal: Ukraine must be further supported, with an urgent focus on boosting anti-ballistic capabilities.
"Our partners have decided on new contributions to the PURL initiative, which will come in June. This will provide crucial help," stated the Ukrainian Head of State, while also emphasizing the urgency for Europe to accelerate work on its own strategic defense autonomy. "It is essential for Europe to have its own protection systems and missiles. The capacity to build an anti-ballistic system exists, and all necessary conditions for production are in place; political decisions must be implemented as quickly as possible."
The President expressed his direct gratitude to the countries working alongside Ukraine on this task—including France, Norway, Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and Italy—reiterating that "Europe will truly become stronger when this is achieved. Not if, but when."

During the discussions with Mark Rutte, Ukraine's invitation to the upcoming NATO Summit in Ankara was finalized. The Ukrainian government confirmed the country will be fully represented and focused on securing practical results.
Advancing the continental anti-ballistic defense architecture is shaping up to be one of the key potential deliverables of the leaders' meeting in Ankara, at a time when speed is considered critical for regional security.
