In G7 Bilateral Meeting, Trump Praises Macron and Confirms Signing of Iran Agreement

During a meeting in Évian, the U.S. President highlights a "fantastic" relationship with his French counterpart and announces progress on opening the Strait of Hormuz.

In a video recorded during the opening of the G7 summit, U.S. President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron demonstrated strong alignment and political pragmatism. In the footage of the bilateral meeting, Trump dismisses rumors of diplomatic tension and makes a point to reinforce his personal and commercial ties with the French leader.

"Emmanuel has been a special friend of mine. We've had a fantastic relationship and we've worked on many deals together," Trump declared at the beginning of the statement.

Agreement Signed and the Strait of Hormuz

The main highlight of the video clip is the confirmation of progress in negotiations with Iran. Trump officially announced that the memorandum of understanding is fully executed, which already directly reflects on international maritime security and the flow of global trade.

"I'm very happy to say—we've signed, the deal's all signed. And the strait [of Hormuz] is already partially opened," the American president revealed, further explaining that sweeping operations are underway to ensure the route's total security. "Ships are starting to go out now; on Friday it'll be completely open."

The meeting in Évian-les-Bains precedes a series of panels focused on economic stability and geopolitical security at the G7, serving as a preview to the exclusive official dinner both leaders will hold later this week at the Palace of Versailles.
