Lebanese President Hails Framework Agreement with Israel as "First Step" Toward Full Sovereignty
Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has described the recent signing of the framework agreement with Israel as a historic milestone and a "first step on the path toward restoring the full sovereignty of the Lebanese State over the entirety of its territory, without ceding a single fraction of it."
In an official statement released by the presidential palace, the head of state expressed deep gratitude to the United States administration, and specifically to President Donald Trump, for the diplomatic efforts deployed in mediation and for their continuous support of Lebanon's official position throughout the process.
National Unity and the End of Foreign Tutelage
Aoun also extended his gratitude to the Lebanese negotiating team and paid a solemn tribute to the citizens who bore the brunt of the conflicts in the region.
"I pay tribute to all Lebanese who have made sacrifices and faced aggression, destruction, and forced displacement," the president stated, emphasizing the need for unshakeable national unity. "We are one people under one flag, without ever sheltering under another."
The Path to Reconstruction
According to the Lebanese leader, the framework agreement is not an end in itself, but the beginning of a structured process aimed at giving full meaning to the population's historical sacrifices. The central focus now shifts toward:
The safe return of displaced citizens to their homelands;
The launch of an "inevitable" national reconstruction process;
The definitive consolidation of State autonomy.
The president concluded his statement with a firm pledge regarding the country's future: "We swear to continue our efforts until this objective is fully achieved. There will be no more occupation, no more prisoners, no more dependency, and no more tutelage," he affirmed.
