Lebanese Ambassador to the US Calls Trilateral Agreement 'First Step' Toward Restoring National Sovereignty

The Lebanese Ambassador to the United States, Nada Mouawad Hamadé, has issued an official statement following the conclusion of intense negotiation rounds in Washington. In a statement reported by the newspaper L'Orient-Le Jour, the diplomat welcomed the signing of the new framework agreement, asserting that the trilateral model represents a historic and fundamental breakthrough for the country's stability and the consolidation of its borders.

Territorial Restoration and Permanent Ceasefire

Speaking on behalf of Lebanon's top leadership — President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam —, Hamadé highlighted the practical impact the treaty is expected to bring to the national territory.

"The signed trilateral model constitutes a first step toward restoring the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Lebanon," the Ambassador stated.

 

According to her, the core objectives of the signed document are ambitious and focused on civilian well-being: establishing a permanent and definitive ceasefire, securing the necessary conditions for the safe return of thousands of displaced citizens to their lands, and guaranteeing a horizon of peace, security, and prosperity for all Lebanese people.

Diplomatic Effort and Recognition

The Ambassador did not hide the complexity of the debates in the American capital, describing the meeting as "long and difficult." However, she praised the mutual cooperation demonstrated by the delegations and expressed deep gratitude to the United States authorities for hosting and organizing the meetings.

Hamadé attributed the success and viability of this historic milestone to crucial political and institutional factors:

The strategic leadership of U.S. President Donald Trump;

The tenacity and commitment of Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam;

The profound patriotism demonstrated by the Lebanese Armed Forces in fulfilling their duty of national defense.

The statement solidifies Beirut's official stance that the treaty serves as an indispensable foundation for reclaiming full government autonomy over southern Lebanon and stabilizing regional relations.
