Israel, Lebanon, and the United States Sign Historic Framework Agreement in Washington

In a major diplomatic breakthrough, the governments of Israel and Lebanon, mediated by the United States, signed a framework agreement this Friday in the American capital. Although the specific contents of the document have not been disclosed, the parties publicly stated that the treaty's primary objective is to pave the way for "lasting peace and security" in the region.

The announcement was made by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio moments before the signing ceremony.

"We are pleased to announce a framework agreement between the sovereign government of Lebanon and the government of Israel, with the mediation and support of the United States," Rubio stated, emphasizing that the pact establishes a foundation for long-term regional stability.

 

A Milestone in Bilateral Relations

The agreement is the culmination of a diplomatic effort that gained momentum in mid-April, when Lebanon and Israel initiated direct talks in Washington under the auspices of the White House. These marked the first direct discussions in decades between the two nations, which technically remain in a state of war.
