Innovation and Global Cooperation: Shenzhen hosts the APEC Leaders' Summit in November

Known as China's technological epicenter, the city in Guangdong hosts the high-level forum focusing on shared prosperity, the digital economy, and regional integration.

The city of Shenzhen, in Guangdong province, takes center stage on the international agenda as it prepares to host the 33rd Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting, scheduled for November 18–19, 2026. The event marks the culmination of the thematic year led by China under the motto "Building an Asia-Pacific community to prosper together."

The choice of Shenzhen as the primary host reflects the metropolis's strategic role—globally recognized as a hub for innovation, artificial intelligence, and technological development. Under the guidelines of the Chinese presidency, this year's forum prioritizes trade openness, the advancement of cooperation in the digital economy, and sustainable energy transition among the 21 member economies of the Pacific.

Debate Axes and Schedule

The official program in November brings together heads of state, ministers, and business leaders from across the bloc to discuss the future of economic security and cross-border infrastructure. Key topics at the summit include:

Technological Innovation and AI: Strengthening strategic partnerships in new technologies, smart supply chains, and joint digital regulations.

Regional Trade Integration: Reducing tariff barriers and facilitating investments to mitigate the impacts of global economic fragmentation.

Green Development: Promoting energy transition practices and technical cooperation in environmental sustainability across the Pacific basin.

In addition to the leaders' plenary sessions on November 18–19, the calendar for China's APEC Year encompasses approximately 300 ministerial and sectoral meetings, culminating in the APEC CEO Summit, which will gather top executives and corporate actors from the region. By mobilizing its urban and technological infrastructure, Shenzhen positions itself as the showcase of the future for trade and multilateral cooperation in the Asia-Pacific.
