In an exclusive interview, Nicolay Mladenov warns that a return to hostilities would be "devastating" and highlights the urgent need to comply with the international peace roadmap.

The High Representative for the Board of Peace, Nicolay Mladenov, has publicly warned that the failure of both parties to adhere to the established peace roadmap "threatens a collapse of the ceasefire in Gaza." The statement was made during an exclusive interview granted to Al Jazeera, in which Mladenov emphasized that there is "no better alternative to the current plan" and that any return to war would bring catastrophic consequences to the region.

The warning was directed equally at both the Palestinian and Israeli sides, against a backdrop marked by continued attacks and incursions in the Gaza Strip. The representative stressed that stepping back from the plan's commitments will negatively impact overall security and humanitarian arrangements in Palestine, pushing the region back into a spiral of uncontrolled violence.

Among the practical developments detailed by Mladenov are:

International Stabilization Force (ISF): The Board has defined the mechanism and deployment locations for the force in the Gaza Strip. Morocco has confirmed its participation in the mission, while Turkey was vetoed by Israel. Advanced elements of the force are expected to arrive in the territory soon.

Reconstruction Funding: Diplomatic efforts led by Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey have yielded pledge commitments totaling $7 billion dedicated to the area's recovery.

Civil Governance: Expectations are that the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza — a technocratic and independent authority — will quickly take over the management of everyday public services and local reconstruction coordination.

Although Hamas has approved the schedule for the next phase of the ceasefire, the plan faces strong political resistance. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu publicly rejected the initiative, denying previous agreements regarding the entry of international troops. The political situation remains stagnant, requiring a new round of international mediation led by United States envoys and diplomatic talks in Cairo.

On the ground, the humanitarian situation remains critical. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, since the ceasefire began in October 2025, records indicate that 1,303 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire and another 4,336 have been wounded, adding to the cumulative human toll of the prolonged conflict.
