Damascus Reveals It Came Close to Security Agreement with Israel Earlier This Year

Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani revealed that the Syrian government and Israel came very close to reaching a diplomatic understanding early in 2026. According to the foreign minister, the parties had "agreed in writing on almost everything" regarding the general terms of a bilateral security agreement.

The negotiations, conducted indirectly with international mediation, aimed to establish crucial guidelines for border stabilization and the cessation of hostilities.
