Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, is meeting this Friday, May 29, with US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, in Washington, DC. The high-level meeting is centered on continuing the complex diplomatic negotiations aimed at formally ending the war involving the United States, Israel, and Iran.

Pakistan has been playing the crucial role of primary mediator and communication channel between Washington and Tehran. The meeting comes at a decisive moment, just hours after the two powers reached a preliminary memorandum of understanding (MOU) to extend the ceasefire for an additional 60 days—an agreement that still awaits final approval from President Donald Trump.

Approval and implementation of the truce: The logistical details to ensure compliance with the 60-day ceasefire by both sides.

 

Guarantees for the Strait of Hormuz: Coordination for the unrestricted reopening of the commercial shipping route and the removal of naval mines.

Nuclear Impasse and Sanctions: Defining the initial steps for managing Iran's enriched uranium stockpile and the corresponding measures for humanitarian aid and economic relief.

Despite intensified diplomatic efforts this week, which also included Iranian missions in Qatar, the situation in the Gulf region remains highly volatile, with recent reports of drone and missile interceptions.
