United States Government Suspends In-Person Services at Embassy and Consulates in Brazil Due to Security Concerns

The United States Government announced the temporary and indefinite suspension of all in-person activities and services at the U.S. Embassy in Brasília and its consulates across Brazil, effective this Friday (2). The measure was taken as a precautionary step related to security concerns.

As a result of this decision, routine visa interviews, renewals, and other consular services scheduled for this period have been canceled and will need to be rescheduled. Embassy and consular staff have been instructed to perform their duties remotely.

Guidance for U.S. Citizens and Emergency Assistance

The U.S. diplomatic mission advises American citizens to avoid traveling to embassy and consulate facilities during the suspension period.

For emergency situations involving U.S. citizens, assistance remains available through the emergency phone lines and electronic channels listed on the official embassy channels.

Cooperation and Rescheduling

In a statement, the Department of State indicated it is working closely with Brazilian public safety authorities. The resumption of in-person operations, along with instructions for rescheduling visa appointments and consular services, will be announced via the official website and social media accounts of the U.S. Embassy and Consulates in Brazil.
