UK Authorizes Transfer of Classified Military Technology for Missile Production in Ukraine

Decision announced on August 24 allows sharing of MBDA technical data for local manufacturing of SCALP/Storm Shadow missile components.

The UK government has formally authorized European defense contractor MBDA to share classified technical information with Ukraine. The measure covers data on British-manufactured components used in SCALP long-range cruise missiles (known in the UK as Storm Shadow), paving the way for the country to produce these weapons on its own territory.

The British announcement came on August 24, Ukraine's Independence Day, reinforcing London's strategic support for the Ukrainian defense infrastructure.

Strategic Impact and Reactions

The British authorization enabled the bilateral agreements subsequently announced by the Ukrainian government, establishing the foundation for production licensing and the country's defense-industrial autonomy.

 

Technology Transfer: MBDA is authorized to provide the technical documentation required for the assembly and manufacturing of critical components.

 

Moscow's Reaction: The Russian government criticized the British decision. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov stated that the measure adds "fuel to the fire" and said Russia is monitoring potential production sites inside Ukrainian territory.
