Jared Kushner's mission unblocks talks with Israel and advances toward a new Gaza plan

United States Special Envoy Jared Kushner concluded a round of high-level diplomatic meetings aimed at saving the 15-point peace plan for the Gaza Strip. Following meetings in Cairo with Hamas political chief Khalil al-Hayya and negotiations in Jerusalem with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, U.S. diplomacy secured a preliminary understanding to structure the next steps of the process.

Creation of Joint Working Groups
The meeting between Kushner—accompanied by former British Prime Minister Tony Blair and Board of Peace (BoP) representative Nickolay Mladenov—and the Israeli prime minister resulted in an agreement to form two joint working groups:

Disarmament and Demilitarization: Focused on ensuring that the weapons handover process is carried out rigorously and prior to any broad reconstruction of the region.

Public Health and Sanitation: Aimed at addressing urgent humanitarian needs in Gaza, with a direct impact on security and quality of life at the border.

Perspectives and Remaining Impasses

Board of Peace representatives classified the meetings as productive and in-depth, indicating that the Israeli government agreed to give the diplomatic initiative another chance. However, authorities emphasize that the successful implementation of the roadmap now depends on definitive guarantees of compliance from Hamas regarding total demilitarization and the transition of administrative power in Gaza.
