New Regional Arrangement in the Strait of Hormuz: Iran and Oman Formalize Technical Understanding Amid Tensions with Washington

The geopolitical scenario in the Strait of Hormuz has registered official diplomatic movements that are reshaping traffic dynamics in the region. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran recently confirmed the formalization of a technical understanding with Oman, establishing a new transit route map for vessels crossing the strategic waterway.

The project, focused on the technical management of the flow, provides for the implementation of separate routes, in which vessels would enter near the Iranian coast and exit near the coast of Oman, operating initially without the collection of tolls or passage fees.

President Donald Trump harshly criticized the Iranian-Omani initiative and issued new threats directed at Omã, warning the country should it compromise U.S. interests or the agreement sought by the United States for the region.
